What Is PIX and How it Dominates Online Casino Payments?
PIX is an instant payment system created and operated by the Central Bank of Brazil, officially introduced on November 16, 2020. It was designed to modernize digital transfers, cut costs for merchants, and promote financial inclusion for Brazil’s large unbanked population. The system links directly to a user’s transactional account, which can be a bank, fintech, or digital wallet account, and enables transfers by QR code or by a simple alias such as an email, phone number, CPF, or random key. PIX runs 24/7, with confirmation in seconds, and transactions are processed through a secure national network outside the open internet.
For casino players, deposits are instant, free of charge for individuals, and supported even on weekends and holidays. Businesses pay a small percentage fee, typically 0.22–0.33%, but casinos rarely pass this cost on to players.
By early 2025, more than 170 million Brazilians were using PIX, accounting for nearly half of all financial transactions in the country, with over 6 billion monthly transfers recorded. Although casino withdrawals are not yet available, PIX has quickly established itself as the preferred deposit method for Brazilian players because of its accessibility, speed, and state-backed security.
